I recently changed my desktop background to a picture I drew using Microsoft Paint. However, once I did, a vertical gray strip appeared on the left side of the desktop (taking up about 1/5 of the screen). Towards the top of the strip, there are three links or whatever you call them: Folder Tasks, Other Places, and Details. If you click folder tasks, you can either “make a new folder” or “share this folder”. If you click other places, you can visit “My documents”, “shared documents”, or “my network places”. And under Details, it simply says “desktop”. Can anyone please help me remove this rather annoying strip? By the way, nothing happens when I right-click on the strip.
I just found out that the color of the strip is determined by the color scheme for windows and buttons (so if I changed it to olive green, the strip would turn green). And I already tried reverting to the original display theme, but the strip still won’t disappear. So no matter what background I use, the strip is still there.
I tried pressing F8….still doesn’t work. Am I supposed to select the toolbar somehow? The only problem is, I can’t highlight or right-click on it!
