Some strategies to win a racing competition with RC cars?

i have a racing competition with small cars that i built with electric motors. What are some strategies that can ensure good performance( gear ratios, mass,parts to use, etc…) for
1) 30m straight road ( i need to complete in least time)
2) going up a 30 degree ramp
